							| If I want to use the modal can with sports and gerund -ing, how can I use this sports? I can go swimming I can play basketball I can go skating I can go surfing or I can surf in the sea. I can go running. I can play tennis I can play football I can go climbing I can go sailing I can box or I can do boxing?? I can go parachute jumping or I can parachute jumping?? 							| I don �t think anyone would ever say  �I can go swimming� meaning they are able to swim. 
  �I can swim� would be the correct sentence. IMO  �I can go swimming� actually means that you �ve asked your parents for permission to go swimming and they�ve agreed to let you go. 
 BTW, the same goes for the other gerunds (I can skate/run/etc.)   |  31 Jan 2012
