							| Dear colleagues, I need your help. In one of the tests I ve come across this question:

 He swims _______.
 a) quickly      b) very quickly       c) the quickest

 The correct answer is a).
What s wrong with answer b)?
Is it possible to choose between a) and b) without any context?

							| I can t see anything wrong with b). Without any context you can t choose, except very adds more emphasis, and perhaps thats not asked for. As a native speaker b) actually sounds more natural. He swims quickly is a bit abrupt. I d be more likely to say He s a fast swimmer    A. He s a fast swimmer isn t he? B. Yes he swims very quickly.  | 6 Feb 2012
