Sheep have a fleece. (countable). A fleece is the entire coat of wool.
Sheep have wool. This is the usual word used.
A fleece.
When sheep are shorn, the fleece can be spread out in one piece. (Of course it will fall apart if roughly handled.) |

Yes, the entire coat is a fleece, which is composed of wool. Sometimes the words are used interchangeably. Mary had a little lamb. Its fleece was white as snow. And everywhere that Mary went The lamb was sure to go Bruce
