							| Words with letter H
 |
							| Could anyone tell me why some words with the letter h are voiceless, such as honest, hour, ..etc and on the other hand, such as happy, high, hello, ...are not.
 Thanks! | 24 Mar 2012

							| those with voiceless "h" are probably of a French origin due to the Norman conquest in 1066, I guess:) | 24 Mar 2012

							| I think that gloriawpai meant those beginning with a silent h The words include:
 heir (heirloom)
 hour (hourly)
 honest (honesty, honestly)
honor (honorary, honorable, honorably, honoree, honoring)

 In some dialects
 herb (herbal, herbaceous)

In some other words from French or Spanish
 hors d oeuvres
 hombre
