							| Reported speech
 |
							| Dear colleagues, some textbooks state that in the reported speech "come" becomes "go". I can t really think of an example. Could you help, please?

							| As a native speaker I can think of this example:
Direct speech:  "Why don"t you come to my party next week?" he asked.

Indirect/Reported speech:  He asked me to go to his party the following week/the week after.

I uploaded some worksheets on "words often confused" come - go; bring - take; get & fetch on WORD & POWERPOINT.  If you want I can send you them.

 Send me a private message.

 Take care,
 Janet

							| Thanx a lot for your answers, dear colleagues. Would it be possible to transform this sentence without changing "come" for "Go"? Like - "Why don"t you come to my party next week?" he asked. He asked me to come to his party the following week. | 20 Apr 2012

							| Seems strange to me like that.  Honestly I would say: "He asked me to go to his party the following week" and I m sure other British people like me would too. | 21 Apr 2012
