							| Does anyone know how to pronounce the name "Cagney"?   Is it /kagni/ , /kagnei/ , /kogni/,  kognei/ ???   Any of the above?   It s the name of the character from the book called "the Preswick s family". | 29 May 2012

							| The pronunciations in the link given by Sophia are the ones I normally expect to hear outwith most of Scotland and Northern Ireland. My own surname also ends in ney (Scottish Gaelic) and we have a tendency to pronounce it /eɪ/ (the FACE set) rather than the /i:/ (the FLEECE set) which I can hear on the link. I m wondering now if the Irish share the same pronunciation, given that Cagney is an Irish Gaelic name.
