							| How does the phrase "go to the Mediterranean" feel to a native speaker? Does it sound natural when you want to say that you are going to visit one of the countries surronding the Mediterranean basin? | 1 Jun 2012

							| It sounds fine. More naturally, we would say, I m off to the Med.
(Wish I was. Instead, I am in Bradford, UK.) | 1 Jun 2012

							| It s a pretty big sea, Jarek - at least twenty countries have a coastline on the Med. It d be easier (and slightly more informative) just to mention the country and/or resort/city and, if you really have to, mention that it s in/on/beside the Mediterranean (Marseille, for example, is France s largest city on the Mediterranean coast) and say that s where you re going/visiting. | 1 Jun 2012

							| My parents went to the Mediterranean a few years ago. They visited Italy, Greece, Croatia, Albania, Turkey, Egypt, and Tunisia. (They didn t take me. , so I can t remember other countries on that cruise.) At least in the USA, we do say the whole word rather than shorten to Med. | 1 Jun 2012
