							| Grammar Question
 |
							| Why is "as they have" wrong in the following sentence?

"Well, real escapologists have less excitement than they are depicted as they have."

I know it s wrong and should be "as having" instead of "as they have" but I have no idea why it is wrong or how to explain it. Can anyone help me?   | 1 Jul 2012

							| It is the way we use depicted. We say:
They (Escapologists) are depicted as having a lot of excitement.
Australians are usually depicted as being sun-tanned and sports-loving, but of course many of us aren t.   We dont say:
They are depicted as they have a lot of excitement.
