Does anyone know how to eliminate the white background on clipart so that it blends with the background?

Yes, in the old version (97) of word it used to be very easy... just click the image and then the pen-like thing in the upperright corner of your screen....

In the newer versions of word you click on the image and then go to picture tools...

If you have a paint program - like Paint Shop Pro - you can use the wizard for making
transparent backgrounds.
