							| It �s New Year �s Eve, the Scots treat this as a really big event.  The Scotsmen don their kilts and have a wee drop or more of whisky. They go round each other �s houses or to big parties. At midnight they link arms in a big circle and sing  �Auld Lang Syne. �  They also mainly observe the tradition of first footing. A dark haired man is preferred - he will cross your threshold in the New Year, bringing you a piece of coal or a piece of cake. This is supposed to bring you good luck. |  22 Dec 2012
