							| As a couple of my mates have said, theres no such thing as a silly question, just a silly answer.
Mate means friend. Its one of the words traditionally associated with Australia. There have even been comedy skits done where a whole conversation can be made up of that one word said with different stresses to convey different meanings.

You may find a few other similar terms like me old china (from Cockney rhyming slang), cobber, digger & Im sure a lot of others too!

 So thank you, Mate!

							| Sounds like typical Aussie slang & sense of humour - thats why Ive refrained from making a worksheet about it for my junior high school students....
& from what I remember, Kiwis are pretty similar too!

 Thanks digger!

							| Yea Bryce I hope you had a good day and were able to celebrate with a couple of fellow Ausies.
Im afraid Ricky Ponting and his lads wont be doing to much celebrating this evening though. Chuckle chuckle chuckle | 26 Jan 2009
