Hi, there!
I can not find the explanation for the word WHITE in the following sentence
"The fields were white for harvest." I can only try to guess the meaning.
No dictionary gives me translation for such situation.
Can anybody help?

It refers to ripe crop
White crop (wheat, barley) is called the one that loses the green to become yellowish or white during the process or ripening as different from the green crop.

Hi again! I found out that a while harvest is a late harvest, when the ground is
white of a morning with hoarfrost. The harvest of 1891 was a white
harvest. There is more here.
I was thinking more metaphorically before :-P
