							| First time I have ever heard that word (invigilator), it s not too often that I hear completely new words in English--cool!       I like the way it says "chiefly UK or archaic" | 17 Jun 2013

							| Invigilator and proctor are formal words meaning exam supervisor.   Where I am the formal IELTS test refers to exam supervisors as invigilators and TOEFL&TOEIC call them proctors. For school, I d just use exam or test supervisor.   invigilator - invigilate - invigilation proctor - proctor - proctoring supervisor - supervise - supervision   I find it surprising that dictionaries refer to invigilate as archaic because I did IELTS invigilator training not that long ago followed by TOEIC proctor training.  Until then, I hadn t heard of either of those words.   Cheers   Jayho             | 17 Jun 2013
