A textbook ist what schools use, they are taylored to the students � needs. A handbook is comprehensive information on a subject matter, sometimes not suitable for students because it might be too detailed.

I would say that a textbook is used in school to teach you a certain subject, whereas a handbook is used in real life to teach you how to deal with a certain object or situation.
My maths textbook - used in school. The Boy Scout Handbook - a guide to how to be a good scout.
A manual is more like the instructions for e.g. a washing machine. |
