							| Verb to be - negative
 |
							| Dear colleagues,
do you usually teach these 3 forms of the verb to be - negative?
Do you teach only the first and third forms? If so... why?
Thanks in advance for your sharing your experience.
 Warm regards from Portugal.

							| You should teach them all three.  The difference between the 2nd and 3rd forms is the emphasis (stress) you want to express.  The You re NOT has a stronger emphasis  than You aren t.  The latter is more casual.  As Sophia said, part of the second column is already taught (I hope) when you teach the affirmative forms of to be.  Hope this helps. Cheers. | 2 Sep 2013
