Why /t/ becomes [d] in English pronunciation when it comes to intervocalic environment? I found an explanation on http://saundz.com/the-sounds-of-american-english/ but I�m still confused..
They are mentioning examples: water, shutter, and bottle, where clear [t] seems to be the more correct pronunciation for me, but it seems that the [d] is more correct, especially in American English, but in "Cockney" pronunciation as well..

It isn �t a clear [d] as well; I mean the American intervocalic "d" corresponding to the British intervocalic "t" is not pronounced utterly the same way as any "d". Just compare the pronunciations of "d-" (dream) & "j-" (jam) to understand it.
