							| Partisan purposes
 |
							| Hello dear friends, A friend of mine asked me the other day how to understand this phrase: narrow partisan purposes . It was from a newspaper article about foreign politics in the USA. Unfortunately I don t have the whole sentence. Can somebody help to explain what exactly does it mean? Is it for the purposes relevant to one party ? Thank you!

							| Basically: yes.   "Partisan" refers to it being bound to a particular political party (in the US that is generally the Democrats or the Republicans) | 13 Nov 2013

							| To be honest up until now I only knew one meaning partisan , which is according to the Webster Dictionary a member of a military group that fights against soldiers who have taken control of its country . Can be quite misleading in a different context...lol
Well, that s one more new word learned by me today. Thank you Douglas for clarification!
