well, "possible" answers are many, like .. were written, are written, will be written, etc .. it all depends on the context I guess. But like Bruce said, that one came in my mind first, as well.

Well .... there was no context. It was one sentence - transformation during the exam.
So without context I thought about other possible answers not only one given in the key answer.
