Same holds true in Arabic; and because of that, even native speakers of Arabic find it difficult to read some sentences appropriately, when diactric marks are incognito. This is due to the fact that the language presupposes a complete understanding of the semantics underlying a given sentence. Such a case is common among news presenters who often stumble on words because of the effort they exert to read sentences in Arabic without the help of diactric marks. So yes, it �s not always straightforward. I bet there are a lot of linguistic mechanisms inherent in this!

It is the LF ( Logical Form) that presupposes the PF( Phonological Form) not vice versa. in other words any semantic representation is present in the child �s mind before it �s phonetic transcription. I don �t know if this true for second language learning and/ or acquisition. but as far as first language acq is concerned moroccan children were able to master the meaning of a given LF sentence before it �s PF The F-features are boost-strapped and P-features are mastered only later.
