Dear friends,
Is the phrase "because of the following reasons" a correct one to be used as part of the last sentence of the introductory paragraph for a TOEFL iBT essay?
A student of mine recently told me this combination is not a common one since it is a sort of tautology.
I want to hear your opinions and any suggestions for the improvement. I know "for the following reasons" more preferable. |

It sounds like the middle of a sentence and implies further information. Definitely "for the following reasons" sounds more natural. Maybe, if he used "because of the following (facts)", it wouldn �t be considered as tautology. Looking forward to the posts from the native speakers. |

"Because of the following reasons" is indeed incorrect. Sophia �s suggestions are good.
On the other hand, "because of the following reasons" is becoming very common, at least in the US, along with "The reason is because..." and even "The reason why is because..."
