Hello my colleagues.
I have a big request to you. I teach in a school where there are groups of student with mixed abilities. I taught them how to write a letter. Most of the students can write it but there are 2 students who have problems with English in general; / I tried almost everything to help them but they still make the same mistakes and their letters are not understandable. Can you give me some titles of books, exercises or examples from your experience. I would be grateful for any help!

First give such students a few samples of letters with jumbled lines to put in the correct order but ask them to do it in writing. Then give them a model with blanks to fill in with something personal so that they can practise the basic structures and again they have to copy the whole model, not just what they fill in. Create several model letters on various subjects. Then ask them to describe those letters answering the questions like "how does the letter start? what are the opening remarks? what is the main subject of the letter? what are the closing remarks? how does the letter end?"Then move on to a less guided writing using prompts (phrases) and, finally, when they �ve covered all that, ask them to write their own letter using a plan. This can take a while but it �s worth it.
