							| Please could someone assist with the following grammar question. 
 They knew that the morning star and evening star were identical. 
 Why cant we say,  
 They knew that the morning star and the evening star are identical.  
 They knew the sun is made of hydrogen. This sentence is past (knew) and present (is)  
 Please could someone assist, thank you in advance.
