I want to ask you about the article "the".

Why is not it used before the word year in this sentence:

It �s quite cold at this time of year though.

This sentence from the student �s book.

I think both are possible. When you google "at this time of year" you even get song names and Shakespeare �s Sonnet 73:

"That time of year thou mayst in me behold"

Ironic is right that both are possible. Also, "this time of (the) day"
