							| Chemist OR Pharmacist?
 |
							| Dear colleagues, what s the difference between the two words - chemist (as someone working in a pharmacy, not a scientist) and pharmacist?
 Are they complete synonyms?
Or perhaps there s a difference in their education - college and university?
 Please help,
 Regards,
 NIN

							| In the UK, we go to the chemist - (shop). Although in supermarkets, the shelves dedicated to medicine etc are often labelled Pharmacy . If you want to speak to the person doing the job, you would ask to speak to the chemist or the pharmacist. (It s the same job). I think pharmacist is coming into the language because the course they study is Pharmacy . Or because they use that word in Europe... | 30 Oct 2014

							| If you say "chemist" in the USA, we will always think scientist, never a pharmacist. | 30 Oct 2014

							| In Canada, "pharmacist" or even "druggist"(not as common but it is used)... A chemist would be the scientist. | 30 Oct 2014
