Hi,
I would like to share our experience in classroom language.
I am always confused about what to say to my students to encourage them to participate and raise their hands and answer.
I usually say : participate with us !
Am I right?
What do you usually say?

I think the best way is to propose a reward each time they participate like giving extra points. |

Here are some possibilities.
Let �s hear from someone else. Let �s hear from someone who hasn �t answered yet.Let �s hear from someone who hasn �t spoken yet.
What do the rest of you think? Who agrees with what she said? Tell us what you think.
Let �s take a minute to give everyone a chance to think about the question, and then we can all share our viewpoints.
Don �t be shy. There is no stupid question. Remember , 10% of your grade is based upon class participation.

You can use lollipop sticks to choose a random person to answer the question. I usually let pupils have some �thinking time � like cunliffe said or discuss quickly in a pair/group, then pull out a stick at random. |
