							| How + adjective questions
 |
							| Hi I m currently teaching "How + adjective" questions and their answers. for example : How long is the Thames? It s 215 miles long.   How wide is the Thames? It s 6 ft wide.    But I have a problem with the answer to "How far". How far is Teddington from the sea? It s about 68 miles .... . With or without "far"?   Thanks for your help.  | 26 Jan 2015

							| Without "far" because of the combination "far from".   It s about 68 miles.   Bruce | 26 Jan 2015

							| Bruce is right.  An alternative is to add "away" at the end of the sentence, usually if you are measuring the distance from here to another place. "How far is the sea from Teddington (our town)?" - "It s about 68 miles away."  An interesting fact - it s usually said that, in Britain, you are never more than 72 miles from the sea. So if Teddington is a town in the UK, it s considered to be very far inland!  | 29 Jan 2015
