A few problems with “ch”
  1) check (=verify) – cheque (money) – Czech (from the Czech Republic)
  In North America, cheque is usually spelt check.
  Could you please __________ if the ___________ man has already paid in the _____________?
    2) French words used in English usually retain the “sh” pronunciation of the letters “ch”.
  chic, champagne, chaise longue, chalet, chandelier, chaperone, chauffeur …
     
     She is chic but cheeky!
  That chap is my chaperone.
  The champions drank champagne.
  The chalet is quite chilly.
  There are three chairs and a chaise longue in the living room.
     
       3) All words in English which begin with chl- or chr- are derived from Greek and are pronounced “k”.
  chlorine, chlorophyll …
  chromium, chrome, Christian, Christmas, chrysalis …
    4) Some “ch” words which are derived from Greek are pronounced “k”.
  chameleon, chaos, character, choir, choreographer, chemistry …
    Examples:
     
   I wrote a cheque to pay the chauffeur.
  Christmas is always chaotic in my house!
  In chemistry we’re learning about chlorine and chromium.
  The Czech choir are staying in a chic chalet.
  The choreographer bought a chrome chandelier.
