							| furure time clauses with ´by ´ and ´before ´

							| Hello dear colleagues, Once again I refer to this wonderful site for help. Could you help me find out the difference between the two sentences:   1. I will do my homework before I go to school.  2. I will have done my homework before I go to school.    I also read that future time words are followed by a verb in the present simple or present perfect tense. Does this apply to the verbs after before and by ? For example, Is it OK to say I will do my homework before I have gone to school ?                                               Thanks a lot  | 5 Feb 2016

							| To me, the first sentence is stating a plan (planning an action) and the second sentence is stating an accomplishment (like checking off tasks on a to do list).
I would say, "I will have done my homework before going to school", not "before I go to school."   "I will do my homework before I have gone to school" sounds strange to me. It sounds more natural to me to say, "I will do my homework before I go to school."    | 5 Feb 2016

							| Thanks a lot, redcamarocruiser! I had an intuition that using the present perfect to refer to the future directly after before or by the time would be too weird but a native s answer would really assure me. Thanks again for your reliable help. | 5 Feb 2016
