Dear colleagues, could you tell me in which grammar theme the students learn the construction " She knocked my drink flying" What kind of construction is " knocked my drink flying" . Can you suggest any grammar book to learn such structures? Thanks in advance! |

It is a so-called complex object. A structure: Subject + Predicate + Complex Object (Noun/Pronoun + Infinitive/Participle 1).

I would not have been able to answer that off the top of my head. Thanks Lusi12, I am now going to swat up on that. At first I was tempted to say that it is like a phrasal verb.
Example: She knocked my drink over. Of course that needs a verb + preposition, which I can see is not what we have here. Thank you for an interesting question.
