							| accuracy vs precision

							| Hi there,   Today a student of mine has asked me about the difference between the nouns above. I didn t know so I looked them up in the dictionary and somehow, their meanings overlap. "The quality of being correct". May anyone be so kind to help me explain the difference between them- of there is any?    Thanks in advance.  | 5 Apr 2016

							| Accuracy deals with how close to the "correct" number you are.   Precision deals with how finely your number is measured.   If I say that my height is 70.0831 inches, that is a very precise measurement (to a ten-thousandth of an inch).   Since my height is actually more like 70.5 inches, then the 70.0831 is not very accurate.   I hope this helps.   Bruce  | 5 Apr 2016
