What are you recommending for summer reading to prevent summer slide (loss of knowledge gained over the school year)?

What are you recommending for summer reading to prevent summer slide (loss of knowledge gained over the school year)?

Some regions are nearing the school year end. Are there any good resources for summer reading to maintain the gains that the students have achieved over the school year? I would love to hear your thoughts. |

Hi Mary, Here in Portugal coursebooks always come with an extensive reading book, usually an adaptation of a famous book or sometimes a story the authors invent. These books normally follow the grammar topics studied throughout the year and may be related to a theme from the coursebook. The thing is, with such little time to do all the things we have to in order to follow each year �s curriculum, sometimes these books are left behind and when this happens I recommend my students to read them over the holidays. If I have the students the next school year it is easy to find out whether they read the book or not, otherwise I have no way of knowing. I hope I may have helped somehow! Georgina |

Hi, I once stumbled onto the Text Project Website and it has a downloadable section Called "Summer Reads".
