							| Is it OK?
 |
							| Hi,    I would like to know if this sentence is OK:   When he was telling the guard about this, the old man turned pale.    The expected verb form is: When I told the guard....  The first sentence sounds weird to me. What do you think?   Thank you   .    | 6 Jun 2016

							| I would possibly use "while" instead of "when" to indicate a continuous action. If the conversation was a little long and the old man was  turning pale at the same time you were speaking to the guard, then I see no problem with using the past continuous form.   When I told the guard is also okay but might have the meaning of the old man turning pale after you spoke to the guard.   Does that make sense?     | 6 Jun 2016
