Those of who who create material and want to draw images, do you use any extra gadgets, like a stylus pen or something, to be able to draw on your computer? How do you generally construct new material that requires drawing?

I asked a graphic artist the same question and she recommended https://www.inkscape.org and https://www.gimp.org/
 
There is also http://www.sketchup.com/ . I have struggled with all of these. It seems the learning curve is quite steep, but I am slowly mastering inkscape.
 
In the meantime I have made some clipart using powerpoint. You can edit shapes by dragging the points under edit shape >points. 
 
 
Youtube has tutorials how to draw in powerpoint and tutorials for the other drawing tools, I believe.
