							| legumes?
 |
							| Dear colleagues,   time to ask for help...   1. I don t eat much legumes? or 2. I don t eat many legumes?   Is it C or U?    And also: in the second sentence am I referring to the amount of food or to the variety of it? How does it sound? I think the writer s intention was to speak about the quantity, and not the variety.   Thanks a lot Chiara  | 3 Dec 2016

							| In the US, at least, we would use "many" in either case.   Bruce  | 3 Dec 2016

							| I agree with Bruce.   Quantity: I don t eat many legumes. or  I don t eat many servings of legumes. Variety: I don t eat many legumes. or I don t eat many kinds of legumes.      | 3 Dec 2016

							|   I wouldn t use the word "legumes."  I would say "I don t eat many pulses" or "I seldom eat pulses." | 4 Dec 2016

							| Learned something new today!     I d never heard the word "pulse" used in reference to  vegetables before.   This is also an indication that "pulse" is much less common than "legumes" and it would probably be better to go with "legumes".   Cheers, Douglas | 5 Dec 2016
