							| Hi everyone. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and also wishing you a very Happy New Year all around the sun. Well, I ve got a question. It s about personal passive with modals. The sentence is: "People think he should have finished his studies." and the new sentence starts with: "He...." My answer is: "He s thought to have finished his studies." But the more I look at it, the more I think is a different meaning. Could anyone help me please? | 30 Dec 2016

							| You are right that "He is thought to have finished his studies" definitely has a different meaning.   There really isn t a good way to change this sentence starting with "He". The impersonal passive, "It is thought that he should have finished his studies" works fine. The best I can come up with is "He is thought to be in need of having finished his studies", which is very awkward.   Bruce  | 30 Dec 2016
