							| relative clause with "WHY"
 |
							| Is there any grammar mistakes in this sentence?   "He told me about his illness, for which he gave up his studying."    I am not very sure about this sentence when I take an example in my lesson.   Please help me.  | 2 Feb 2017

							| First, I don t understand your subject line, since "why" isn t in your sentence.   The grammar is good. If he gave up school altogether, it should be "studies", rather than "studying". If it s a temporary situation, then "studying" is correct.   Bruce  | 2 Feb 2017

							| Alternatives could be "due to which" or "because of which" if you prefer. You could also say "which caused/led him to give up" to make it less formal. | 3 Feb 2017

							| I agree with Bruce that the grammar is fine, but "for which" sounds strange and awkward to me. I would say "which caused  him to" as FrauSue suggests. | 3 Feb 2017
