							| HELP
 |
							| Hi everybody. I have a question concerning the use of two words. If somebody wants to find out if the water is cold or hot which word would be correct:   to check the wateror
to try the water   I will be grateful for help.  | 13 Mar 2017

							| "Check" is best, if you say "try" you are implying either tasting it or jumping in to it.     | 13 Mar 2017

							| I agree that check is the better word choice, but you would probably also hear check the temperature to specify what you are checking the water for (temperature, chlorine content, etc.). | 13 Mar 2017

							| Douglas is right: If you told me to try the water to see if it was hot I would definitely think you wanted me to drink it. | 13 Mar 2017

							| You could use "test" instead of "check." I agree with Douglas and Rabbit about "try."  | 13 Mar 2017
