							| Jeans were first worn in Europe, although the riveted item most people think of as "jeans" was invented in San Francisco, California.   One of the odd things about English is that any article of clothing involving the legs is treated as plural, even when only one garment is involved. Jeans, pants, trousers, shorts, leggings, stockings, boxers, briefs, swim trunks, panties, and even pantyhose are all grammatically plural.  | 16 Dec 2017

							| When I say "jeans", my students usually think of the material, denim.  That s why they, too, tend to use it in the singular.   | 17 Dec 2017
