Phonics "ir" as in "fire"

Hi,

I have a question. What do you call the situation when the "ir" has 2 syllables like in fire, tire, wire, etc. Why do they not follow the long e formation?

Hi Esther,

I may be wrong but at least "fire" features in most tripthong lists? I mean, those words you mention seem to be 1- not 2-syllable.
