							| Hello, gang --    First, let me say that I never realized how much I missed all you guys until I saw the latest round of picture captioning.  It was a belly laugh like Ive not had in a while.  Ive been away from this board for a while, a change in jobs led me in a direction I didnt anticipate.  Im still not back full tilt, but it is nice to be here again.    Second, I need to beg a little help.  (Wait. She shows back up after how long? And has the nerve to ask for help?) Yeah, I know, but Im kinda desperate.    Im still in China, and I have a 14 year old boy, about a low intermediate level, who I tutor once a week on Monday evenings for 90 mins.  Ive used all the suitable material I have on hand.  I did a search for some ppts, and came up empty. Do you wonderful folks have any ideas? I need to do about 5-6 more weeks of lessons with him. Just until the first week of May, then my hubby and I will be off to Florida for the birth of our first grandchild.  (Yes, I totally plan to be "that grandmom" with all the pictures.)  So far I have covered: weather, directions, nationalities/languages, past continuous (while/when/as), comparisons, comparatives/superlatives, and a vocab game.    Anyway -- If anybody has any ideas, Id be eternally grateful for some thoughts.    Cheers --    Dee   | 24 Mar 2019

							| On tefl tunes.com they teach different vocab / grammar through songs, you could plan lessons around that since at the age of 14 teens tend to like music a lot, they even like songs they dont like, if that makes any sense. Similarly when i was teaching kids id find a fun game and then build the first half of the lesson just around making sure theyd be ready for the game
If you are wondering about curriculum thats appropriate you can free and legally download the content pages of most oxford cambridge and pearson textbooks

							| Hi Dee, What are his interests? Can you go with that? What about using a story-telling approach than than topic-based? A few urban legends, or ghost stories... Heres my effort   Or about the environment... Or The Monkeys Paw. Some great materials on here, including this ppt and youtube clips.
One to one is harder than having a class, imho!  | 25 Mar 2019

							| "Terry Fox, the Canadian Hero" is a great story to go through with young students.
There is a lot of material in the net and a Penguin Readers booklet.
It covers the topics: dont give up / cancer / living for a higher cause... | 25 Mar 2019

							| You can do sports/championships/competitions/famous sportspeople - hes bound to be interested in something; schools in his home country and English-speaking countries. Below there is a link to two educational films A2 level:       You can also do foods and cooking, travelling and holidays. In terms of grammar component Id do Present Perfect v. Past Simple (that often causes problems), various future forms (to be going to v. Simple Future; you can also do Present Continuous or Present Simple for future meaning) - you can combine it with the holiday topic. Should you run out of ideas, depending on his level you can practice some Cambridge exams with him: if he is A2 - KEY for Schools would be suitable, if B1 - Preliminary for Schools. They are skills based so they have listening, reading &writing and finally speaking components. Actually it may sound like a good idea for him to have such qualifications, so practising for the test will save you the decisionmaking pains ;-)       best, joanna  | 25 Mar 2019
