							| Which one is correct?
 |
							| Hi everyone, kindly tell me which one is the correct statement:
1.
A: My shirts smell bad.
B: Then why do you smell them?
2.
A: My shirts smell bad.
B: Then why are you smelling them?
Thank you very much for all your help. | 27 Jul 2019

							| Both are correct, but the second one is the better choice. As you know, the simple present (your first option) is for repeated or on-going action, so it implies that person A smells the shirts regularly. The present continuous (your second option) is for something that is happening now, so it is a one-time event (probably). That makes it a better joke.   Bruce  | 27 Jul 2019
