							| Hope - collocation
 |
							| Dear native speakers,    I have a question regarding collocations. Is "cast hope on someone" awfully  wrong or just a little unusual? It is possible to cast a spell on someone, is it not possible to cast hope on someone?   Any help is greatly appreciated. ;o)   | 17 Nov 2019

							| No, that doesnt get said. You can place your hope in someone, invest hope maybe, rest your hope, but I dont think you can cast hope on someone. ... | 17 Nov 2019

							| I would say it is somewhere between "awfully wrong" and "a little unusual". It wouldnt be technically wrong to say, but it is a bit of a misuse of the word cast. "Cast" tends to indicate a negative effect (like a fog) on the situation. When you use it with "hope" it feels a bit oxymoronic.   Just my thoughts, Douglas | 19 Nov 2019
