							| They are the same.  It is just 2 ways to say the same thing.   Direct speech - is the quote - what the person actually said -          "I like pizza."   indirect or reported speech - is someone repeating what someone said.                                                                     She said that she liked pizza. | 14 Mar 2009

							| Hi, there. If you don t mind, I think that "reported speech" refers to both direct and indirect speech. How? "reported" adj from the verb to "report" which means to bring sth (here a piece of speech) from sb to sb else. Thing we can do either in  a direct or indirect manner.
"I am happy," John said. = I am reporting what John said.
John said that he was happy. = It s always I reporting what John said. Isn t it????

 Cheers
