							| Negative suggestions
 |
							| Hi there, I have a doubt regarding negative suggestions in reported speech:
-"Lets not eat the apples", my mum said.
- My num suggested that we not eat the apples.
Is the reported sentece correct? Is it possible to say... That we dont eat...?
Thanks in advance. | 18 Apr 2021

							| Hi,
My Grammar Book says we can use either an ING form or a subordinate clause after SUGGEST, so:   - My num suggested not eating the apples or - My num suggested that we should not eat the apples    As Present Simple usually refers to a routine action, "My num suggested that we dont eat the apples" may not be the best option.   Hope that helps    | 18 Apr 2021

							| Thanks for your answers.
Some native speakers told me the NOT EAT option was wrong, but it seems to be grammatically correct.
Thanks | 19 Apr 2021
