Hi there, I have a doubt regarding negative suggestions in reported speech:
-"Let�s not eat the apples", my mum said.
- My num suggested that we not eat the apples.
Is the reported sentece correct? Is it possible to say... That we don�t eat...?

Hi,
My Grammar Book says we can use either an ING form or a subordinate clause after SUGGEST, so: - My num suggested not eating the apples or - My num suggested that we should not eat the apples As Present Simple usually refers to a routine action, "My num suggested that we dont eat the apples" may not be the best option. Hope that helps |

Some native speakers told me the NOT EAT option was wrong, but it seems to be grammatically correct.

it is grammatically correct, but not the most common to use (especially among AE speakers) |
