							| Dear colleagues,   I�ve always wondered if different versions of the same test (say, the test on some grammar and vocabulary) are VARIANTS of this test or, rather, VARIATIONS? Supposing you�ve decided to give some of your students Test A and the others, thus, are going to be given Test B. Both are, for example, are based on the materials of Unit 1. So, do we call Tests A and B variants of the Unit 1 Test or do we call them variations? Is there a major difference? I�m a bit puzzled ...  |  18 Apr 2021

I would call the test an alternate version (or a second version). 
Variant to me fits better to a virus, etc. like a mutation. 
Variation fits to a musical or literary piece. There are many variations of Cinderella. |  18 Apr 2021
