Thank you Janet, I will order that book, that is right up my street!

 

A while ago, I thoroughly enjoyed reading a book called �What would English have been like if the English had won in 1066�... or something like that. It demonstrates that, when we say that 70% or so of English derives from Latin, it really derives from Latin via Norman French. This partly explains why we have so many words in English - we have the original Old English word and the French version alongside. I made a power point about it, but I couldn�t upload it here. It is under the size limit - I wonder if anyone can advise me? I would like to upload it.
