							| Dear colleagues,   Need urgent help with the  following question:   "That makes the gooseflesh come and the hair rise."   (Extract from The Empty House)   What is the previous phrase an example of?   I think it may be considered either metaphor or Idiom .... Am I right?   Thank a lot,    | 1 Oct 2022

							| "Gooseflesh" is used to describe human skin, not in a literal way. The form isnt right for a metaphor (which uses both the actual thing and the figurative thing), so I guess its an idiom. The rest of the sentence is literal.   Bruce  | 1 Oct 2022

							| Just as an aside, nowadays we would say: that gives me goose bumps and makes my hair stand on end. | 2 Oct 2022
