							| COMPARISON WITH NEARLY
 |
							| Hi all,    I´ve got a question regarding NEARLY in comparisons.    in the following sentence, what should I use "nearly" or "not nearly"?   "Statistically earthquakes are a bit more dangerous than wildfires" NEARLY   "Statistically wildfires are  .......................as dangerous as earthquakes"    To rephrase the sentence I´ve written:    "Statistically, wildfires are NOT NEARLY as dangerous as earthquakes" but the key says my try is wrong. the correct rephrased sentence is    "Statistically, wildfires are NEARLY as dangerous as earthquakes".    What do you think?  | 5 Jan 2025

							| Your statement, "Statistically, wildfires are NOT
NEARLY as dangerous as earthquakes," is accurate when comparing the global
death tolls attributed to each. Between 1998 and 2017, earthquakes were responsible for
nearly 750,000 deaths worldwide, accounting for more than half of all deaths
related to natural disasters during that period. World Health Organization In contrast, wildfires have resulted in significantly
fewer fatalities. For
instance, in 2023—a notably severe year for wildfires—the global death toll was
263, marking it as the second-deadliest year for wildfires since 1991. Statista These
figures illustrate that, statistically, earthquakes have been far more lethal
than wildfires on a global scale. | 5 Jan 2025

							| Hi folks! If we are talking facts, then you are both right when it comes to using not nearly. However, in terms of vocabulary/grammar (and the exercise in question), a bit more is more similar to nearly in that context. That is the problem, and sometimes the advantage, of being an English teacher; the real world has a way of keeping a respectful distance when it comes to the gritty reality of everyday life. Feliz dia de Reyes! btw. | 6 Jan 2025

							| Ive found that managing time effectively is key when juggling multiple projects, especially with tight deadlines. One thing that really helped me was outsourcing some of my writing tasks to professionals. For example, Ive used cheap academic writing services to handle reports and documentation, which freed up more time to focus on critical technical details. This approach not only reduced stress but also improved the overall quality of my work. Its worth considering if youre feeling overwhelmed. | 12 Mar 2025
