Hi,

I have a student who is due to travel to Japan in August. He is in elementary level of English and wishing to learn anything that could be useful there.

Can anyone can help with some advice, sites to visit, useful worksheets or whatever you think may be of interest?

Which part of Japan is he headed too? I �m near Tokyo so I can probably find some useful sites & scan a few things to email. August is also school holidays here, so depending on my own commitments (I might be in Australia for a holiday), we might be able to meet & do a couple of tourist spots.

It has some useful city guides & info about something called a �Grutt Pass � which can make visiting museums & galleries (amongst other things) a lot cheaper.

This is an adult student going there for a month course so anything that may be of help as traditions, food and restaurants, means of transport, places to visit etc may be useful.

I will ask him his exact destination and will message you, alien boy.

I will be grateful for any help you can give and, of course, count on us if you or any of your students happen to come to Argentina.

I also highly recommend the Lonely Planet Travel Guides - they are ups=dated regularly & have great culture, language & getting around info. Last time I went to Eastern Europe I �d have been lost without it. They also produce good city guides & have a great website!

Dear Tere-arq

Most Japanese people don �t really expect that foreigners can speak much Japanese, especially if they are just visiting. So they are often very impressed when people have learnt a little before-hand. Perhaps this is true of most nationalities.

If your student can learn a few basic phrases, I �m sure he would enjoy his stay infinitely more.

Here are an example of a couple of (the NUMEROUS) free Japanese language learning websites on the net. I �m afraid that they are in English-Japanese, but your student should be able to understand the equivalent of what he already knows in English.

Also, the ability to use chopsticks can be of enormous benefit Big smile
