Hello Teachers,

I was reading the other day about time management

I m not sure about schools in everybody s country .. But in my country we only have 40 minutes for each class

and a teacher would always feel like the time is running without making the best out of it

so I read about this technique, it s called "The Diary Technique" . It s suitable for new teachers.

what you should do BEFORE CLASS is draw yourself a table Like this one here :

| Time | Spent on ?  |
| 09:00 - 09:05 |   |
| 09:05 - 09:10 |   |
| 09:10 - 09:15 |   |
| 09:15 - 09:20 |   |
| 09:20 - 09:25 |   |
| 09:25 - 09:30 |   |

IN CLASS : you write what you do in every 5 minutes. and you should have your own abbreviations so that you don t take time in writing.

| Time | Spent on ?  |
| 09:00 - 09:05 | Intro |
| 09:05 - 09:10 | Intro |
| 09:10 - 09:15 | Voc |
| 09:15 - 09:20 | Pronun |
| 09:20 - 09:25 | R + int |
| 09:25 - 09:30 | R + HW |

after that you go home and write them back in the long form

intro = lesson introduction
voc = introducing new vocabulary
pronun = pronunciation practice
R = reading
int = interruption
HW = assigning new homework

you can add any abbreviation

anyways, you keep doing this for a week or so

then you revise you tables and know where did you spend more time at doing

it will help you to rememer not to spend more time than necessary at doing it

in the example above you can see that the teacher spent 10 minutes on the introduction which is too much (when it comes to a 40 minutes class)

so she will remember to spend only 5 minutes

it s very useful for new and trainee teachers

hope you like it. :)
